For many people that suffer from substance abuse, affordability is a reason in why they are not able to seek treatment. And, those that hear about free drug rehabilitation centers may ask, are they really free?
While many of today’s drug rehabilitation centers are not free, individuals who lack the funds to pay, but require substance abuse treatment can still find drug rehabilitation centers that offer free services and resources.
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, many treatment providers have recognized that paying for treatment can be a burden for some of their clients. To help defray the costs of treatment, some facilities offer no charge and/or a sliding fee scale based on income and other factors.
What Treatment Services Are Offered By Free Drug Rehabilitation Centers?
Treatment for substance abuse can vary from one free drug rehabilitation center to the next. Depending on the needs of an individual, there can be numerous treatment options that can be offered to help them overcome their addiction. Some of the services that may be offered by free drug rehabilitation centers can include:
- Inpatient Substance Abuse Treatment: For individuals that may have a severe drug addiction, an inpatient treatment center can be the best choice for them. There are free drug rehabilitation centers that help individuals that cannot afford to pay for inpatient care. Cost may be covered through special programs offered by the center itself or community agencies.
- Outpatient Treatment for Drug Abuse: Addicts with less severe addictions, but that still require an effective form of treatment can get free treatment for their addiction. This can include medications they may need to start their treatment, such as the medications given to opiate addicted individuals, and other forms of treatment. Treatment can be specific to one drug, like heroin for instance.
- Group Meetings and 12-Step Programs: There are free drug rehabilitation centers that are similar to Narcotics Anonymous that offer many effective treatment services and resources to help addicted individuals join a recovery program at no cost. From counseling, to group sessions, medication, job assistance, family issues, and other important areas that need addressing.
- Community Based Programs: Churches, as well as local area hospitals may also be able to help individuals find the treatment they need at no cost to them. Many of them receive funds from companies in the area, or from members of their church. These funds can be used to develop programs that reach out to drug addicted individual that wish to seek treatment, but could not afford it.
There are many free drug rehabilitation centers to help addicts recover. From faith-based to government funded drug rehab programs. There are also scholarships that people can apply for -to help cover the cost of treatment.
Why Have Free Drug Rehabilitation Centers?

You do not have to suffer alone. Free rehab centers can be found across the nation.
Drug abuse and addiction is a huge nationwide problem affecting many individuals and their families. Many drug-addicted individuals may be suffering, or are suffering from additional health complications too. In some cases, because they cannot afford to pay for treatment, or believe that free drug rehab is not effective. Some think that free drug rehab centers may lack the necessary resources to help them recover from drugs and get their life back in order.
While there are drug rehabilitation centers that cost more and are not free by any means. It does not mean that an individual will not receive effective treatment therapy from a free rehab center.
Many free drug rehabilitation centers that have no cost options have been around for years, and have proven to be successful in treating individuals with drug addiction to recover, and go on to living a more healthy lifestyle.
