5 Problems that Arise during Inpatient Rehab
When you enter inpatient rehab, you are away from your home and familiar places. Although this can be exciting for some, most people addicted to drugs and going through withdrawal suffer under these circumstances. This is particularly true of those going through the anxiety that many types of withdrawal cause. There are several easily dealt with problems that can arise during your inpatient stay.
1. You Have Forgotten Something From Home
This is a very common occurrence. Perhaps you forgot your favorite t-shirt or a teddy bear that helps you get through the worst times. In the thick of withdrawal, this can seem catastrophic. As long as the object is not on the forbidden list of the rehab, it is possible to have a staff member call home. Most of the time, the object you forgot can be dropped off for you even if you are in a closed rehab and cannot see your friends and family.
2. You Forgot Toiletries
Most inpatient rehab facilities expect this or the confiscate toiletries on arrival due to their alcohol or other content. The majority of inpatient facilities have access to a fully stocked closet of toiletries such as:
- combs
- brushes
- shampoo
- conditioner
- safety razors
- soap
- other necessities
They keep these on hand just in case someone needs them. Some rehab facilities keep all of these things and issue them to patients when they are needed.
3. Boredom
One of the worst complaints that people have about inpatient rehab is the boredom. Although there are always activities planned, you might not feel up to them, or you just don’t want to participate. Usually the only way to relieve this boredom is to participate in the activities that they have for you. They might not always be to your liking but it does pass the time and you might learn something.
4. External Conflicts
Even though the people in rehab with you might have similar problems, you might on always get along with them. Sometimes conflicts between other patients or staff might arise. Since both parties are not normally in a very good state of mind it is important to remember that every at the center has the same goals. When the conflict goes too far it is always important to alert a staff member or if it is with a staff member then asking someone who is higher up than they are might help.
5. Internal Conflicts
Sometimes the conflicts inside yourself can become the problem or the issue that blocks your treatment. All rehabs have counselors trained to deal with internal conflicts and the mental issues that might arise from withdrawal, detox, and treatment.
